MAY: WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS MONTH
May is Wildfire Preparedness Month!
…and we are setting up for a long fire season.
As temperatures increase and days get longer, now is the time to complete defensible space work, harden your home, connect with your Firewise community, & sign up for emergency alerts.
Small, focused actions this month can make a big difference ahead of the 2026 Fire Season.
WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS BINGO!
Keeping your home safer from fire has never been more fun! This year Truckee Fire is launching Wildfire Preparedness BINGO to make it easy, engaging AND rewarding to check items off your to-do list.
Complete 5 activities in a row (horizontal, vertical or diagonal) to earn 1 entry for a chance to win a special prize!
A FULL blackout earns an ADDITIONAL chance to win AND an additional prize.

DEFENSIBLE SPACE INSPECTIONS
Truckee Fire will begin general defensible space inspections in Mid-May!
You can schedule with one of our inspectors to get a thorough picture of which mitigations to prioritize on your property, as well as which home hardening upgrades could be eligible for financial support through Truckee Fire’s Home Hardening Rebate.
Truckee Fire will be performing blanket inspections as part of our standard 3-year inspection cycle.
Join Truckee Fire’s Wildfire Prevention Team on May 13th at 3PM for a virtual webinar to discuss our defensible space workplan for the 2026 season:

RESIDENT LEADER REMINDERS
This is the month to create momentum in your community! We’re here to support you in more ways than one:
✅Host a community work day! Truckee Fire & SWEP want to sponsor your community workdays with a fully funded 30-yard Green Waste Dumpster. We’d LOVE to see each Firewise Community use ALL FOUR 30yd dumpster rentals available to them this summer!
✅Have us at your event! A representative from Truckee Fire can attend to answer questions, provide guidance, and support your outreach requirements! (e.g. a neighborhood barbecue, a Zoom call featuring an educational speaker, or a community service day)
Thank you for being an integral part of the community and making our region more Fire Resilient!
