The Burn Ban is NOW IN EFFECT as of June 15, 2026.
In effect during the Cal Fire burn suspension each year. Typically June-November each year.
Supported by local HOAs, Town of Truckee, County Ordinance, Regional Fire Chiefs, and Cal Fire.
Truckee Fire District has experienced a number of escaped fires caused by improper charcoal ash disposal and campfires.
ESCAPED CAMPFIRES ARE THE MOST PREVENTABLE HUMAN CAUSED FIRES IN OUR AREA!

No. Briquette-fueled smokers are not allowed during the burn ban because they use charcoal briquettes, which can remain hot after use and create a fire risk if not disposed of properly.

Yes. Pellet-fueled BBQs and smokers are allowed during the burn ban because the fuel is consumed to ash and does not leave behind hot charcoal or briquettes that could pose a disposal risk.

No. Adding wood chips or shavings creates a risk of incomplete combustion and improper disposal of hot material, which could start a wildfire.

No, with over 15,000 residential structures in the district, there is no logistical/financial way to inspect, issue, or enforce permits of that magnitude.

Yes. ALL open flames are restricted during Red Flag days. No outdoor cooking, heating, or candles/torches!
