Stronger Together: A Landmark $8M Investment in Forest Protection

Local partners unite to protect our forests and communities

When it comes to wildfire prevention, boundaries don't matter. That's the powerful message behind a groundbreaking $8 million forest health grant that brings together seven local entities to restore and protect over 2,600 acres of forest landscape across Nevada and Placer Counties.

The Power of Collaboration

Led by the Truckee Fire Protection District, this unprecedented collaborative effort represents a critical step in safeguarding our region's most vital natural resource. The Nevada and Placer County Collaborative Landscape Resiliency Project is more than just a funding initiative – it's a testament to what we can achieve when communities work together.

Project Highlights

Our collaborative grant partners and thier projects:

  • Martis Camp: 380 acres of commercial thinning and biomass utilization

  • Sierra Pacific Industries: 571 acres of fuels reduction

  • Truckee Donner Land Trust: 167 acres of commercial thinning

  • Northstar Vail Corporation: 140 acres of commercial thinning

"Wildfire doesn't respect property boundaries. This collaborative approach builds landscape-scale resilience that protects our entire community." — Dan Alvey, National Forest Foundation

Strategic Approach

Unlike previous neighborhood-level projects, this grant allows us to start in the surrounding forests and work inward – creating a comprehensive protection strategy that addresses wildfire risk at its source.

Community Impact

Residents can expect to see expanded fire prevention projects over the coming year on public and private lands, including key evacuation routes. As Truckee Fire Chief Kevin McKechnie notes, "These projects demonstrate what's possible when communities unite behind wildfire resilience."
