2026-2027 Fall-Winter Real Estate Inspections

Update on defensible space inspections for real estate as the seasons change.

Hi all,

We want to thank each and every one of you for your collaboration in defensible space this year. We have brought many properties into compliance due to real estate transactions alone, which contributes to the overall resilience and safety of our community. 

As we move into colder weather, we’d like to provide an update on the plan for real estate inspections: 

Availability for inspections is currently unchanged: 

You can still expect a 2-week turnaround time (when requesting through our standard form), and you can also continue scheduling precise dates/times on our real estate calendar.

What happens if/when we close the calendar?
This does NOT mean real estate transactions are held up.  Please familiarize yourself with the California Association of Realtors (C.A.R.) Fire Hardening and Defensible Space Advisory and Disclosure form (FHDS), specifically paragraph 4B(1). This section allows buyers to assume responsibility for bringing the property into compliance within one year of the transaction date, in accordance with California Civil Code 1102.19.

What should buyers do next, once the calendar is closed for winter?

  1. Once the calendar reopens (anticipated ~May/June), the buyer must schedule an inspection at www.truckeefire.org/dspace.

  2. Complete the indicated work within a reasonable timeframe.

  3. Request a reinspection to obtain a final compliant report.

PROPERTIES IN TAHOE DONNER

Tahoe Donner Association is aligned with Truckee Fire in suspending property sale inspections when weather conditions prevent inspection. Please note that this point may occur earlier (and extend later) than the rest of Truckee due Tahoe Donner’s geographical location and microclimate.
