Truckee Fire seeks community members for Measure T Citizens' Oversight Committee
Two committee seats and five alternate positions open; Applications due Nov. 6
TRUCKEE, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2026) – Residents who want to help oversee local wildfire prevention spending, without running for office, can now apply to serve on Truckee Fire Protection District’s Measure T Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The district is seeking applicants for two committee member seats and five alternate positions, with terms beginning Jan. 1, 2027. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
The committee’s role is to confirm that Measure T funds are spent as voters approved when they passed the measure in 2021. Each fall, following the district’s annual financial audit, committee members review Measure T spending and accomplishments and report their findings to the Truckee Fire Board of Directors.
"Measure T was built on a promise to voters that these dollars would stay local and go toward wildfire prevention," said Truckee Fire Chief Kevin McKechnie. "The oversight committee is how our community holds us to that promise. You don't need a finance background, just an interest in where your tax dollars go and a willingness to ask good questions."
Who can apply
The Board is seeking people with varied backgrounds who are property owners, residents or registered voters within the Truckee Fire Protection District. The seven-member committee preferably includes one member each from unincorporated Placer County, unincorporated Nevada County and the Town of Truckee, plus four at-large members.
Employees of Nevada County, Placer County and the Town of Truckee, and their dependents, are not eligible to serve.
What to expect
Member terms run two or four years, and members may be reappointed at the Board's discretion.
Alternates are non-voting and may be appointed as full members if a seat opens.
The committee meets at least once a year and typically no more than quarterly. All meetings are open to the public under California's Brown Act.
Members complete ethics and anti-harassment training and file a statement of financial disclosure.
How to apply
Applicants should review the committee bylaws and code of conduct, linked on the application, before applying. Apply online at truckeefire.org/cocapplication by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
