WILDFIRE MITIGATION & INSURANCE
What Does a Wildfire-Ready Home Look Like to an Insurance Company?
Mercury Insurance recently released updated wildfire mitigation minimum standards for homes seeking coverage, and they closely align with Truckee Fire’s Defensible Space and Home Hardening programs.
Their baseline standards include:
Class A roof
Ember-resistant vents
6" noncombustible clearance at the base of exterior walls
Enclosed and protected deck bases
Zone 0 improvements, including noncombustible fencing attached to the home and appropriate vegetation management within 5 feet
How does your home measure up? Truckee Fire offers free Defensible Space and Home Hardening Inspections to identify vulnerabilities and recommended improvements. Schedule at truckeefire.org/dspace
