CAL FIRE Officials Suspend Burn Permits
Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit declares burn ban effective July 1
Auburn – CAL FIRE, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit Chief Brad Harris announced that effective Thursday July 1, 2010, residential burn permits will be suspended. This suspension applies to areas in Nevada, Yuba, and Placer counties that fall within state responsibility area and local jurisdiction under contract with CAL FIRE. The annual suspension of burn permits is declared each year around the first of July in response to summer weather conditions. Chief Harris said, “Experience has shown that suspending debris burning is an effective way of preventing wildfires, especially as Northern California enters a period of hot and dry weather.”
Beginning July 1, all fires or smoke reported by citizens will be considered a wildfire and a full suppression response will be dispatched to the scene. Anyone who burns in violation of the burn suspension may be issued a citation and could face cost recovery charges for the fire suppression response.
The burn ban will remain in effect until enough rainfall accumulates in the fall to warrant lifting the suspension.
